1.11.2008:
A Racist M&M???
8:46 AMMy buddy Jeremy sent me a link to the new M&M commercial. We freeze-framed it when we saw this:

That, my friends, is a racist M&M.
As Jeremy said, "the only way it could be more racist is if it was only the brown M&M in the theater and he was hooting and hollering and yelling "AWW fuck no! don't go in that door! shit bitch you stupit!'"
I'd really hate to catch a glimpse of what Mars does with the yellow M&M.

wow...just...wow
Yeah... I was a bit aghast when he pointed it out to me.
Mars... Who knew such a delicious candy company could be so racist?
I didn't get it. Can you explain it?
The issues of internationalization, perhaps?
Julian, I'm thinking it's the fact that the M&M has very large lips, a very stereotypical image for an African-American in the US
Because they've drawn an M&M with nappy hair and big lips, this is racist? Is not nappy hair and big lips and fairly typical physical characteristic of a black person? I mean, have you actually looked at the average black person like, ever? Just like almond eyes and black, straight hair is a fairly typical physical characteristic for an asian. Or freckles on a redhead. Would drawing an M&M with those features be racist, too?
Now, if the M&M was eating fried chicken and watermelon, I could see the racist moniker. But to show fairly common normal physical characteristics...I just do not see how this is racist.
The extremity is what makes it racist. It's just just showing an M&M with specific racial features, it's taking that sterotype to an extreme. To use your own example, it would be like showing an Asian, except instead of the almond-shaped eyes, you took it to the extreme and gave it little slants for eyes.
